Logandale hosts next Tour stop
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Clark County Fair
and Rodeo, which starts April 12, is making its
fourth consecutive appearance on the Wrangler
ProRodeo Tour. This weekend, cowboys and
cowgirls will not only compete for part of a
purse that exceeded $250,000 in 2006, but
earnings that apply toward the Wrangler ProRodeo
Tour and inclusion into the newly formed playoff
system later this summer.
Logandale, which is located some 60 miles
northeast of Las Vegas, is the ninth stop on the
21-city Tour. The four-performance rodeo, which
wraps up on April 15, is first of two Silver
State stops on the 2007 schedule. The Reno Rodeo
hosts the 14th stop, June 15-23.
This year’s Wrangler Tour consists of 21 rodeos
through August. Contestants can choose 15 out of
the 21 rodeos to count toward their official
Tour Rodeo count. At the conclusion of the 21st
rodeo, the top 35 contestants in total Tour
money and the “wild card,” event champions from
the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo, will
move on to the first Tour Championship event
Aug. 14-18 in Caldwell, Idaho. From there, the
field will be trimmed to a single champion after
the three subsequent playoff events in Puyallup,
Wash.; Omaha, Neb.; and Dallas. Fox Sports
Network and CBS are scheduled to televise the
Championship events.
Last year in Logandale, Trevor Brazile continued
his march to a fourth world all-around title by
winning the rodeo’s all-around title,
highlighted by average victories in both team
roping (with Rich Skelton) and tie-down roping,
earning $10,643.
Brazile topped the list of champions who
parlayed Logandale average victories into
appearances in the Wrangler National Finals
Rodeo. Bareback rider Jess Davis of Payson,
Utah; steer wrestler Joey Bell Jr. of Malakoff,
Texas; and barrel racer Brittany Pozzi-Pharr
also enjoyed big paydays in Logandale to help
springboard their efforts toward the world’s
premier rodeo.
Other aggregate champions from Logandale were
saddle bronc riders Josh Reynolds of Corvallis,
Mont., and Matt Hebbert of Hyannis, Neb.; and
bull rider Mike Moore of Kankakee, Ill.
Laughlin primed for Xtreme Bulls
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Dodge Xtreme Bulls
Tour presented by B&W Trailer Hitches makes the
first of two consecutive visits to Nevada this
weekend. Fans at the Laughlin (Nev.) Arena –
located some 90 miles south of Las Vegas – will
see 40 of the top PRCA bull riders in the world
go up against the best bulls and a shot at a
total purse of $50,000. The Tour visits the Reno
Rodeo in June.
Laughlin, the sixth stop on the 10-city Tour,
features two matinee performances April 14-15.
Each show is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. PT.
Dustin Elliott of North Platte, Neb., the 2004
world champion bull rider, and 2000 World
Champion Bull Rider Cody Hancock of Taylor,
Ariz., a two-time winner on the 2007 Xtreme
Bulls Tour, headline the list of riders. Also
scheduled to compete are two previous Tour-stop
winners from this season – Luke Haught of
Weatherford, Texas (San Antonio, Feb. 17) and
Chance Smart of Philadelphia, Miss. (Houston,
March 18).
Highlights of the Laughlin tour stop will air on
ESPN on May 13 at 4 p.m. ET, with an encore
presentation scheduled for May 24 at 3 p.m. ET
on ESPN2.
In Laughlin, each rider competes for part of the
$50,000 purse and placement in the Xtreme Bulls
rankings.
In Xtreme Bulls, every contestant competes in
the semifinal round, with the top 15 performers
advancing to the final round. The winner of the
two-head average wins that stop’s title. Dodge
Xtreme Bulls Tour earnings count toward the
world standings, which determines qualifiers for
the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Dec. 6-15 in
Las Vegas.
