"Bull rider Charlie Barker on his first DNCFR"
Charlie Barker from Terrebonne, Oregon competed
in his first Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo
March 14-17 in Pocatello.
Barker didn't qualify for the DNCFR, but was
given the opportunity to step into the DNCFR at
the last minute, and he made the most of it.
Barker won more than $4,000 in Pocatello and
made it to the championship round in the bull
riding.
"It was good. There's a lot of money to be won
back there. I wish I would have rode a little
better but it worked out."
Barker rode one of four bulls in Pocatello. His
80 point ride in the second round split second
in the round and earned him a chance to compete
in the top 8 semi final round, and was worth
enough points to get him to the top four finale.
"I had a bull of Powder River's called Necktie
in the second round. Really a good bull. He
turned back right there, just spun back and got
it on, a really fun bull."
"It was worth $4,000 that I know of, they give
away a lot of money back there. I don't know
about some of the bonus money yet."
Cooper Kangeisser from Kansas won the bull
riding with an 89 point ride in the final round
on Flying 5's Four Aces...
The Big Bend and Flying 5 Rodeo Company's of
Washington had a major impact on the DNCFR. Wes
Stevenson from Texas won the bareback riding
with a final round 87 on Flying Five's Miss
Amerititle. Anthony Bello from Utah won the
bronc riding on Big Bend's Kool Toddy.
"They really bucked," Big Bend/Flying 5 owner
Don Hutsell said. "They won a lot of money on
our stock."
The DNCFR's other champions...
Steer Wrestling - Gregory Bennett, New York
Team Roping - Colt Braden/Jake Long, Oklahoma
Tie Down Roping - Cutter Parsons, Arizona
Barrel Racing - Shali Lord, Colorado
