Columbia River Circuit Finals Underway


Ned Cross from Roosevelt, WA was all smiles after his 87 point ride Friday night to open the Dodge/Amerititle Columbia River Circuit Finals Presented by U.S. Smokeless Tobacco. The 21 year old Cross covered the bull Watch Dog from the Flying 5 Rodeo Company. Circuit standings leader and National Finals qualifier Zeb Lanham from Idaho was second with an 85. Lanham stretched his lead over J.C. Bean from Goldendale, WA who finished out of the money with a 73 point score. Lanham has now won more than $30,000 in the circuit.

2002 World Champion Bobby Mote from Redmond took a big step toward winning the 2006 Columbia River Circuit Championship when he turned in an 83 point score on the Big Bend Rodeo Company’s National Finals Rodeo horse Spy. Mote, who entered the rodeo with a lead of $1,100 over Jason Havens from Bend, padded that lead when Havens finished out of the money with a 72 point score. Mote has now won more than $20,000. Mitch Rickman from Powell Butte was second with a 78. Tyler Barnes from Prineville was third with a 76, Brian Bain from Culver was fourth with a 75.

In the bronc riding the MacKenzie boys from Jordan Valley, OR finished 1-2. Last year's average winner, Sam MacKenzie won the night with a 76 on Mike Corey's Old Crow, his brother Ryan, the circuit standings leader, placed second with a 75 on Big Bend's Swift Current.

Among the matchup's in the riding events for the rodeo's second performance on Saturday night, Mote will get a rematch with three time Bucking Horse of the Year Spring Fling in the bareback riding. Spring Fling bucked Mote off last year on Saturday night. Lanham will try to ride the NFR bull HiJinx from the Big Bend. Ryan MacKenzie will get on the Flying 5 horse Detour.

Brenda Mays from Redmond won the barrel race with a 15.66. Barb West from Oak Harbor, WA was seocnd with a 15.92, followed by Linzie Walker from Conway, WA with a 16.15 and Jana Isaac with a 16.38.
