Questions and Answers with Cody DeMers...

Cody DeMers has been to the last three Wrangler National Finals Rodeos...We talked to him in Tucson on Sunday afternoon while he was fixing his bareback rigging after watching his hand come flying out Saturday night in Waco, which he said probably cost him about $3,500 and maybe a chance to go back to Las Vegas this year. DeMers is 22nd in the bareback riding this year, he's 14th in the all-around, and he said if it doesn't happen this year, there's always next year...
Question - It's going to be kind of a challenge for you the rest of the year isn't it...
Cody - Yeah it is...I haven't decided what I'm going to do the next couple of weeks, I don't know that it is possible but I hate to say quit.

Question - How did you get started because I know I've even seen you team roping.
Cody - My dad got me started. I think the only thing I haven't tried is calf roping and steer wrestling. I've been around rodeo my whole life, it's the thing I know.

Question - You've been to the NFR in the bareback riding, you also compete in the bronc riding...Do you have a favorite event?
Cody - Which ever event I'm winning money in. That would be my favorite. I love 'em both. The bronc riding is easier on you, I haven't been as consistent in the bronc riding yet, but I aim to fix that.

Question - How big a thrill would it be to make it to Vegas in both events?
Cody - That's the ultimate goal. If I am going to enter these rodeos then my ultimate goal is to be at the finals in both events. Next year's looking pretty good to me.

Question - You were an all-around champion at the College of Southern Idaho under rodeo coach Shawn Davis...What impact did he have on you?
Cody - Shawn knows alot from both angles, production and competition. I learned so much from him on both ends of it. I wish I had more time to learn more from him because I honestly believe he has forgotten more about rodeos than most of us will ever know. It was a great experience for me, I pretty much grew up about five miles from him so I've pretty much known him my whole life.

Question - Shawn produces a boxing smoker as a fundraiser every year. Do you still go back and fight in that?
Cody - My brother is going to school there this year, he's a freshman, my cousin was a freshman there last year and she actually fought in it. They have three women's fights every year, I think that's what sells all the tickets is the women's fights. My cousin was one of them last year, it's good watchin...
