Albuquerque hosts
final rodeo of Wrangler Pro Rodeo
Summer Tour...
The New Mexico State Fair in
Albuquerque played host to the 12th
of 12 rodeos on the Wrangler Pro
Rodeo Summer Tour
Albuequerque was a make or break
rodeo for several contestants hoping
to earn a trip to the Summer Tour
Finale in Omaha this weekend.
Barreback riders Jess Davis and
Scotty Drennan, steer wrestler Chad
Hagen, team ropers Logan Olsen and
Cody Hintz, tie down ropers Randall
Carlisle and Ryan Jarrett, barrel
racer Kelly Maben and bull rider
Shawn Procter all secured spots in
the Summer Tour Finale with their
performances in Albuquerque.
Royce Ford from Colorado won both
the Tour Round and the average in
the bareback riding in Albuquerque.
Davis, from Utah, earned 17 Tour
Points to move up to 8th in the
standings. He placed in two out of
the three rounds including splitting
first in the second go round of his
event. Drennan, from Texas, did not
place either either long round but
did earn a chance to come back in
the short round, turning in a second
place finish of 85 points and moving
up to 12th in the Tour Standings.
In the steer wrestling Chad Hagen
from Louisiana won the Tour Round
with a 3.5 and won the average with
a total time of 11.2. He will head
into Omaha 8th in the steer
wrestling standings.
Logan Olson and Cody Hintz from
South Dakota and Nevada won the Tour
Round in the team roping with a 5.7
and won the average with a 15.6 on
three head to earn themselves a spot
in the rodeo in Omaha. Olson and
Hintz won more than $6,110.
Rod Hay from Canada has been on a
Tour Rodeo Roll...He split first in
the average in Puyallup, the split
first in Pendleton, before he final
won one outright, riding three
horses for a total of 246 points in
Albuquerque. Hay will head to Omaha
second in the Tour Standings in the
bronc riding.
Albuquerque could have been the
ticket for veteran tie down roper
Ricky Canton to Omaha. Canton won
the Tour Round with an 8.4 and won
the average, but finished two Tour
Points shy of a trip to the Tour
Finale. He did win more than $3,600.
The ropers who did get into Omaha
were 2005 All-Around champion Ryan
Jarrett from Georgia who will head
to Omaha tied for 11th in the Tour
with three time all-around champ
Trevor Brazile. Randall Carlisle
from Texas moved up to 8th in the
Tour Standings with the 11.5 points
he collected in Albuquerque.
Barrel racer Terra Bynum from
Lubbock, Texas suffered the same
fate the befell Canton. She won the
first round and the Tour Round en
route to the average win in the
barrel race, but didn't finish the
Summer Tour with enough points to go
to Omaha. Maben finished second in
the average, placing in all three
rounds in Albuquerque and earning 26
points to move up to 11th in the
Tour Standings and punch her ticket
to Omaha.
Proctor, from Tooelle, Utah, was the
only man to make a qualified ride in
the Tour Round in Albuquerque. He
earned more than $8,100 and moved up
to fifth in the Tour Standings.
Proctor won the Tour Round with an
80 point ride on Cervi's Dirty
Blanket bull.
