Joe Beaver's never been a big Pendleton Round-Up Fan...

He says the grass arena scares him, especially after having his knees operated on a few times...

Beaver might have fonder feelings for Pendleton after this year's rodeo. He won the tie down roping outright, moving up to the number eight spot in the PRCA's World Standings in the process. Beaver and partner Nick Simmons from Oklahoma split first in the team roping average with Oregonian Jake Stanley and Californian Russell Cardoza, and Beaver won the all-around title in Pendleton, collecting $12,411 in the process.

"This is one of the last major rodeo's I've never won," Beaver told the East Oregonian Newspaper. "It means something to come here and have a good day like today, especially when I need it so bad as far as the standings are concerned."

The 40 year old Beaver wasn't the only PRCA World Champion to win his first ever Pendleton title this year. 42 year old Brad Gleason from Touchet, Washington won his first Pendleton average title too. Gleason secured his spot in the Summer Tour Finale in Omaha at the end of the month when he threw his three steers in 17.9 seconds. The 1997 PRCA World Champion said he had been thinking of retiring, but in Pendleton Gleason won more than $6,800.

Bull riding Mike Moore from Illinois won the average in his event, thanks to a 92 point ride in the Tour Round on Western Rodeo's Poison Ivy bull.

"He had a great day and I had a pretty good day myself," Moore said. Moore won more than $7,400.

Pendleton was the 11th stop on the Wrangler Pro Rodeo Summer Tour, the 12th and final rodeo on the Tour prior to the Finale in Omaha is this weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
