Discussion continues about the Professional
Rodeo Cowboy's Association's recent decision to
form a barrel racing subsidiary called the
Professional Women's Barrel Racing Association,
which is supposed to take effect at the
beginning of the 2007 rodeo season on November
13, 2006.
Here's the news release that has been printed
this week on the PRCA's website...
"The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association
Board of Directors voted August 16 to form a
barrel racing subsidiary, Professional Women's
Barrel Racing. The Professional Women's Barrel
Racing event will be featured in the 2007 rodeo
season, which starts November 13, 2006.
The formation of Professional Women's Barrel
Racing is aimed at streamlining the approval
process for PRCA rodeo committees, and improving
efficiency for contestants. Professional barrel
racers already enter PRCA rodeos via the PRCA's
Central Entry System, PROCOM.
In 2007, only Professional Women's Barrel Racing
events will count toward world standings and
Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualification, as
well as all other PRCA championship
competitions. The new PRCA subsidiary will have
a separate board of directors."...
Meanwhile, the Women's Professional Rodeo
Association is asking it's members to wear red,
white and blue ribbons at rodeos this weekend to
show their support for the organization. A
statement on the WPRA's website headlined "We
Support The WPRA..." says the following...
"
The following statement was approved by Brittany
Pozzi, Tammy Key, Terri Kaye Kirkland, Jackie
Dube, Jolee Lautaret and Kelly Maben:
We appreciate everything the WPRA has done for
the sport of barrel racing and for the American
cowgirl. Thanks to their efforts throughout the
years, we enjoy the benefits of equal money,
safer conditions and having our own female
representatives work to make our sport even more
successful. We support the WPRA!
Some of the biggest names in the industry are
standing up for their association because their
association has always stood up for them. We
hope we can count on the same level of support
from each and every member as we continue to
protect your interests.
