Brad Goodrich won the tie-down roping and the
all-around titles at the Farm City Pro Rodeo
August 9-12 in Hermiston, Oregon.
He couldn't have been happier...
"I've been entering this rodeo every year since
the beginning," Goodrich told the East Oregonian
newspaper when asked about his history at the 19
year old rodeo. "I've been waiting a long time
for one of them saddles. I've been second here
maybe six times, but I've never won it so this
is real special."
Goodrich secured the title with a 9.1 in the
Tour Round in the tie down roping and won a
total of more than $4,700. He is 33rd in the
PRCA's tie down roping standings and has won
more than $25,000 this year. He is third in the
Summer Tour Standings with 61.5 points and is
virtually guaranteed a spot in the Summer Tour
Finale next month in Omaha, Nebraska.
Cash Myers set an arena record with a 3.6 second
run in the Tour Round to win on the way to
winning the steer wrestling average in
Hermiston. Lakeview, Oregon's Shawn Greenfield
was second in the Tour Round and in the average,
Myers won $4,740, Greenfield earned more than
$4,500. Greenfield is 8th in the world
standings.
Bareback riding World Standings leader Andy
Martinez won both the tour round and the average
in his event in Hermiston. Martinez earned
$5,300 and has won more than $90,000 for the
year.
Tammy Key from Texas drew up first in the Tour
Round in the barrel race in Hermiston and won
the round and the average. "I was first and that
mattered a lot, I needed all the help I can
get," Key said. "I was not doing well at all in
the Tour standings, I only had 24 points coming
in, this gets me 35 so if I can just get about
another 20 I should be good for Omaha."
Key said the $5,200 she won means a lot to her,
especially since she's planning to go back home
after Labor Day. "I've got a 15 year old son at
home so I hit the road hard in the summer and
then I'll head back home next month and stay in
Texas and Oklahoma."

Questions and Answers with Zack Oakes...Two Time
NFR bullriding qualifier from Tonasket, WA -
Question - Tell me about your 85 point winning
ride at the Omak Stampede?
Zack - Got pretty lucky...Got a good bull close
to home, it doesn't get much better than that.
That little bull's really cool, jumped and
kicked and turned back to the right. Tested the
leg and it held up so I guess we are off and
running now.
Question - This was your fourth bull since you
got hurt, the first one you've ridden. Tell me
about the injury?
Zack - It was a fluke deal at St. Paul on July
1, I had a bull kind of go down in the back end
with me, I don't know what happened but
something popped in my leg. There wasn't no
spectacular wreck or anything, I was sitting
right in the middle of him and my leg popped and
here I sat for a month and a half.
Question - The bad news is that you missed a lot
of good rodeos, the good news is that you are
still 16th in the world?
Zack - I was fortunate enough to have a pretty
good spring and a good winter, the Tour Finale
in Tulsa helped alot, that kept me afloat. I'm
not real worried, right now it's looking good.
I've got the Finale in Dallas made so I'll just
keep plugging along and hopefully stay close.
Question - You've probably got a few more rodeos
you could use after the injury if you need them?
Zack - I'm not real worried about that...Rodeo
count hasn't ever really bothered me, I don't
think I've ever been to more than 65 rodeos. I
know the few that I do go to I try to make them
count. I've got a wife and kids and a family and
I don't like leaving home. If I could get away
with going to 20 I think I would.
Question - Is that the other piece of good news,
you got to spend some time with your family?
Zack - I got to spend some awesome time with my
family. I had forgotten how good it was to be
home, in a way being crippled was a good thing
for me. I'm coming back hungry now, I feel
awesome, I got to know my kids again, in that
way it was a blessing in disguise.
Question - Tell me about your start?
Zack - I got started like any other kid got
started. I rode sheep when I was a kid, My dad
Dave used to run along side my brother Joe and I
when we were riding steers holding on to our
belt loops so we didn't crash to hard. He
actually steered us toward bareback riding and I
think we probably got wiped out on more bareback
horses than we ever have on bulls.

The PRCA now has eight members of it's $2
million dollar club.
Tie down roper Cody Ohl from Hico, Texas went
over the $2 million dollar mark August 8 when he

Rodeo.
